The online listing “Craigslist” makes it really easy to find free home medical equipment in your area, and further afield.
There is a category of listings called “free stuff”, and you get to choose exactly where you are going to look, and you can even do searches for the exact type of equipment you are looking for within the free stuff category.
Free used medical equipment near me on Craigslist
To do a search for free home medical equipment on Craigslist, you need to enter into your browser window “craigslist + your local city, or county + free stuff”.
For my example below, I have typed in “craigslist Ithaca NY free stuff”.
Google search results are giving me options for free stuff, both in Ithaca, and the finger lakes area as a whole.
I clicked on “Free stuff”, and the result loaded a page full of all the listings for “free stuff” in Ithaca.
To refine my search, I enter the kind of medical equipment that I want into the search field.
I have circled this in the image below.
I chose to enter “bedside commode”, and I got one result.
You may get more than one result, so just click on the one that interests you, and the page for that posting will load for you.
To got more information about the posting, click on the “Reply” button in the top left above the title of the listing, and you can then contact the owner.
Once you have hit “Reply” button, there will be a couple of “Captcha” tests to go through, and finally you get the contact information of the owner.
Finding garage/yard sales with used medical equipment near me, on Craigslist
This will not be free equipment, but you can find very cheap items at garage sales.
And Craigslist also has a Garage Sale category of listing, where you can find local garage/yard sales in your area.
Just as before, you do a search in your local area.
I did “craigslist + Ithaca + ny + garage sales” and I got the search results below.
Click on the search result, and you will load those listings – a list of the garage sales in your area on any given day.
You can also change the day of the search using the calendar in the left-hand sidebar on the page of listings.
You can see what garage sales are coming up on the weekend, for example.

The reason this is so good, is that people typically post quite a number of photos of what they are selling, and you can easily browse the photos to see if they have what you are looking for.

Yard Sale Treasure Map
Yard Sale Treasure Map is an app which displays all the Craigslist garage sales on a map.
This can make it easier for you to go around all those in your area on the day.
There is a free version and a paid version of the app.
